While Peter managed Hall of Heroes—the greatest comic store chain ever to operate in South Jersey—a tatted-up woman rolled in from the Hot Topic scene, looking for a few books for her boyfriend. A conversation sparked about his likes and dislikes; this was the ethos Peter pushed at Hall of Heroes: you have to know the product to sell the product. In this case, she wanted “a Rob Zombie comic book”—easy request. She walked out with Rob Zombie’s Spookshow International.
The chat continued, and it turned out her boyfriend was a tattoo artist and illustrator who had even self-published a comic called something like Deadworld. Later, she returned and dropped off an ashcan preview copy. It was clear the main character was inspired by the hot tattoo chick herself—isn’t love grand?
From there, Buz Hasson came through the store one day while Peter was managing, and an immediate friendship was struck. Buz Hasson, the talented NJ-based comic artist and tattooer known for The Living Corpse and his South Jersey roots, was soon acquired for Nouveau Studios. The project? Percavil’s Quest, the prequel to The Eyes of Asia.
