As I reflect on my time in Highlands, I’m reminded of the local artistic legend, BJ Trinidade, whose graffiti-inspired colored pencil work left a lasting impression. After my recent move, I was thrilled to rediscover a set of Spectra colored pencils tucked away in my collection. These pencils, which I vaguely recall “borrowing” from the Highlands Art Cabinet before graduation, might just be the same brand BJ used in class—and perhaps even afterward. I’m not proud of taking them, but I’m grateful to have them for this exploration of his style.
BJ had an extraordinary talent for color blending, a skill I’ve been chasing in my own colored pencil work. With these pencils, I feel I’ve come closer to capturing the vibrant, instinctive quality that defined his art.
Now, to the topic at hand: what would be a fitting title for a video game inspired by BJ’s bold, colorful style? I propose NJ Gunz. It captures the gritty, vibrant energy of his graffiti-like aesthetic and hints at the dynamic, rebellious spirit of a game rooted in his artistic legacy.
