Mystic Mistress Issue Number Zero Title: Outcasts

By Kevin Bridgeman

Page One: Splash Page

Panel 1 Art: Slaves charge at a huge menacing alien known as Lord Omus. He fries some of the slaves with energy crackling from his fingertips.

Panel 2 Art: A close up of Lord Omus. He looks sinister and evil as he stares at the rebelling horde of slaves.

Thousands of years ago. In a place of slaves struggling to claim their independence. Chasing freedom. Ignoring the charred remains of their brothers and sisters in arms and fighting on. In a world where reality is composed of mysticism and magic spellbooks, their crusade for peace is has universal consequences–For their unlikely rebellion means the survival of our reality too!

Page Two

Panel 1 Art: Lord Omus uses his powers and makes the ground erupt from beneath some of the slaves; Some of the slaves writhe in anguish as they are crushed under rock. (Medium shot)

It is said that man, Adam, was made of the ground. This time the people become one with the earth–

Panel 2 Art: Huge rocks shower some of the slaves. They become buried under the rubble. (Medium shot)

–in the most gruesome way.

Panel 3 Art: From a hillside facing the battle scene, some of the rebels catapult balls of flame at Lord Omus.

Panel 4 Art: Omus laughs as the fire rages around him.

Mystic Mistress/Bridgeman/2

Their attempts are futile, for this demon controls the ferocity of the elements themselves. Earth.

Panel 5 Art: The slaves rise off the ground at Omus’ control and are slammed into each other. Bones crushing. Blood spurting from their bodies.

Wind.

Panel 6 Art: With a wave of Omus’ hands some of the slaves suddenly burst into flames.

And Fire.

Page 3

Panel 1 Art: Most of the slaves lie dead or dying only a few still stand to carry on the fight.

The rebellion ceased. The freedom fighters’ blood paint the battle field like a large canvas. The tortured souls were pelted in a shower of evil.

Panel 2 Art: It begins to rain. One man appears from out of the sorely thinned phalanx of warriors. He is bloody and battered and struggles to stand.

Literally, from the ashes of the dead comes a hero.

Panel 3 Art: medium panel. The man’s hand is outstretched to the sky. His hand is on fire yet he feels no pain. He carries the eternal flame. Energy shoots out of the flame.

The blood of heroes needed to be shed in order to provide the necessary distraction to defeat the tyrant. No small sacrifice, indeed.

Panel 4 Art: Lord Omus is consumed by the mysterious energies. He is screaming.

Mystic Mistress/Bridgeman/3

Panel 5 Art: Lord Omus disappears–his soul sucked into the Eternal Flame. Overhead shot of all the bodies lying or wounded around him.

Page 4

Panel 1 Art: Christy Berthingham as a very young child, is sitting up from her bed, screaming because of a nightmare.

Panel 2 Art: Ernest, her father, charges into her room, he switches the light on.

Christy: daddy!!

Page 5

Panel 1 Title page Art: Close up view. Ernest hugs Christy as she cries.

Ernest: Hush, mystic. Don’t cry.

Page 6

Panel 1 Art: Ernest sits on a chair in the living room. Christy walks to Ernest with a mug of hot chocolate.

Ernest: Come honey. Sit on daddy’s lap.

Panel 2 Art: Christy uses her powers and warms the hot chocolate. Her hands glow with energy.

Ernest: Care to tell me what that awful nightmare was about?

Panel 3 Art: Christy sits on Ernest’s lap, looking up at him.

Christy: It was the slaves again, Daddy. The demon locked ’em up in chains and forced them to dig mines and make tall buildings.

Panel 4 Art: Christy sips her hot chocolate. Ernest looks down at her.

Mystic Mistress/Bridgeman/4

Christy: The slaves got angry and turned against him. They torched him and shot him with arrows. Then he stomped on them and they all died.

Panel 5 Art: Ernest runs his hand through Christy’s hair.

Christy: Then this man held a big pot in the sky and the demon got sucked down the drain.

Ernest: Rest your little head, Christy, honey. The doctors will know what to do about your nightmares, if anyone can. Those bad dreams of yours will disappear, I promise.

Ernest: Okay, Mystic. Get back to bed right after you finish your hot chocolate.

Christy: But, Daddy–the Demon.

Ernest: Okay. Okay. How’s about Daddy reads you a bedtime story. I’ll be in your bedroom till you fall asleep.

Christy: Promise?

Ernest: Scout’s honor.

Page 7

Panel 1 Art: Medium shot. Malinda, Christy’s mother, walks Christy out to the bus stop. The bus is across the street. Ernest talks to the next door neighbors, Charlie and Martha.

October 11, 1978

Malinda: Hurry, Christy.

Charlie: I gotta hand it to ya, Ernest. I mean, your kid is really a bottle of sunshine.

Panel 2 Art: Close up of Charlie

Mystic Mistress/Bridgeman/5

Charlie: I’ll admit it, Ernie. Christy is definitely the brown seed of the crop.

Ernest: Sure, Charlie. Still no one can determine what Mystic’s–traits are or where they come from. Doesn’t matter, though. It’s what makes her one of a kind.

Martha: Yeah, one of her kind, s’matter of fact.

Charlie: Martha, Please!

Panel 3 Art: Charlie looks embarrassed over Martha’s comment.

Charlie: Excuse her, Ernie. But truly — you shouldn’t let that girl use her powers in public places. As for being part of her kind, she needs to be exposed to children like herself. It’ll do her some good. Might even growup to be one o’ those supertypes.

Panel 4 Art: Ernest looks angry at the couple.

Ernest: Okay, genius, where the hell do I find children like herself? A blue light special at K-Mart?

Charlie: Sorry, Ernie. But when you look at things at face value-

Ernest: We’ve been through this before. That child is pure flesh and blood. We raised her to be anything she wants to be in this world. We’re not going to treat our daughter like an outcast.

Panel 6 Art: (Close up of Charlie, looking upset)
