Inspired by my high school art rival, BJ Trinidad, I’ve been driven to recreate his striking artwork that left a lasting impression. As a freshman at Highland Regional High School, I admired BJ, a senior whose talent and popularity set him apart. Though our interactions were brief, his art captivated me, particularly his designs for a 2D side-scroller video game. Rumors swirled that BJ had a deal to develop this game, but in hindsight, it seems like a game of telephone. Still, I vividly recall his pencil-and-colored-pencil sketches of game levels, brimming with creativity.
Years later, questions linger: What was the game’s title? How many levels did he design? What was the big boss like? These mysteries fuel my current creative dive. I’m determined to learn BJ’s drawing and coloring techniques, channeling his style to reimagine the video game we never saw. By designing levels, crafting a memorable boss, and bringing his vision to life, I aim to honor his influence and explore the untapped potential of that forgotten project. Join me on this journey to revive a high school dream through art and game design!
