It was 2007 and I was long tired of comic books and movies. I was looking for something else.

It was here where I walked past a Belvedere Vodka ad featuring Vincent Gallo shot by Terry Richardson.

This ad was highly impactful for me because it was here I realized there was a higher level of creativity, something far away from the graphic design, web design, and illustration disciplines that consumed my day-to-day. At the time I thought Vincent Gallo was a “just” independent filmmaker, the idea he was in an Ad of this nature, an ad that wasn’t glossy said something, but I wasn’t sure what it was.

Part of the appeal I feel was an idea I seem to get obsessed with from time to time and that’s individuals that seem to master more than one craft. This ad triggered me to discover why, and how who I thought was an independent filmmaker ended up in this AD. questions like “why is he important “, “are there other filmmakers in these ads”, and “who is this guy” – I realize now that’s the intent of an AD like this. To appeal to individuals like me at the time, those who are not in the “know”.

I since then have grown to deeply admire the type of force Gallow is.
