It’s always my intent to showcase my artwork and illustrations in as many different forms as possible as they move through the production process. I was elated to recently discover, during a deep thumb drive search, that this original color sheet of my NSART contemporaries was not lost in the great DPM hard drive disaster, as I had thought.
What still bothers me about these is the skin tones, something I feel I have always struggled with. I still believe this properly executed the intention of this little project: to showcase the talent within NouVeau Studios and what that talent could do for clients.
I feel now is a good time to address Ken’s art for this piece. At the time of conceiving this, Ken had gone through a breakup with his then-girlfriend and had briefly shaved. This sheet had floated around the studio, and my idea was to draw whoever collaborated with me or was hired by the studio for later use on NSART.COM. Ken got back together with his girlfriend, eventually married, and had me in the wedding. The idea was to keep this as a way to later highlight that he and I had a long-running relationship. That did not turn out to be the case, as Ken and my relationship fell apart with the release of Eyes of Asia issue #4. Even now, this gesture seems fun, as it crystallizes a moment in Ken’s life and the history of the studios.
