As a hired gun your sole task is to create amazing work and rapidly produce deliverables. One of the greatest obstacles in plowing ahead and being the Mr. Awesome you envision you are is your client’s Taste Level. Often overlooked by professionals of all calibers; this is something that can quickly steal momentum and challenge how well of a pay day you get.
Identifying taste level.
- Kick Off Meeting or Phone Call Ask the following
- How do you envision the end product?
- What led you to this decision?
- What do you like related to this field?
- How close are you eyeing the competition?
- Does the competition matter?
- What is your view of the current state of affairs?
- Honing in on a taste level
- See as many samples as possible links, magazines, past work etc.
- Create a style guide as soon as possible
- Produce fast mock ups as close to real production work
- Submit ideas to what you like.
- Dangers of not discovering the taste level
- Slow to get started
- Frustrate your client and yourself
- Will not use time effectively
- Produce more than you need to complete the project.
At Design Pros Media I developed a questionnaire and workflow that exploits and rapadily discovers the clients taste and expectations. If you have not started doing this for yourself it’s never too late to start.
