- 1996, marvel comics, the mighty thor, thor
I recall part of this pitch would be to temporally change The Mighty Thor title to simply GOD OF THUNDER similarly to Journey into Mystery transited into Thor than Mighty Thor, yes I’m still a bit hazy on what the beats of that are. Maintaining a numbered continuity but treating the title change as a way to announce this is something new always felt better than creating a new volume and restarting the count.
At the time of this piece, I was taking a Mythology class for my Junior year of Highschool which really pumped me up because it was one of my first classes that didn’t seem like a Special Ed free for all that my other academic classes pigeonholed me into. Getting into “normal” circiulum-based classes was a fight against the School Board from the 3rd grade on. During this time when we learned about Thor, the details that stood out were he had gauntlets and a long hammer. I thought those details were as cool as they got and served as a perfect divergence to how we normally saw the Marvel Comics Thor. Even to this day I haven’t seen much done with the gauntlets.
